Some weddings are quiet and intentional. Some are playful and energetic. This one managed to be both.

The ceremony took place at the Newberry Library, one of those spaces that instantly makes everything feel meaningful. The architecture, the light, the stillness of the room before guests arrived. It was a beautiful contrast to what the rest of the evening had in store.

Nicole and Jack are thoughtful, curious people at heart. They love books, media, long conversations, and exploring cities together. That energy showed up throughout the day in small, intentional ways, from the ceremony music to the overall pacing of the evening. The focus wasn’t on perfection. It was on joy, movement, and being fully present.

After the ceremony, guests headed to WhirlyBall Chicago for a reception that felt more like a gathering than a program. Bowling, WhirlyBall, mingling, and a lot of laughter. Instead of traditional spotlight dances, they kicked things off with dedicated dances where guests were invited to join in. From there, the night unfolded naturally. People moved, played, talked, and actually experienced the space together.

What I loved most about this day was how true it felt to them. A Newberry Library wedding brings in history and intention. A WhirlyBall reception brings energy and fun. Together, it created a Chicago wedding day that felt personal, relaxed, and genuinely joyful.

If you’re planning a Newberry Library wedding in Chicago and want it to feel meaningful without feeling stiff, this is such a good reminder that your day can hold both depth and play
